Boot up problem.

Hello,

I have a Gateway dx4800 running Vista.

I got home from work yesterday to find that my PC had crashed while I was out (Which sometimes happens. I believe I have a overheating issue) .

Anyhow, I restarted the computer and a screen came up saying (approximately):

There was a problem with windows. To recover :

1) Insert recovery disk

2) Select Language

3) Select "repair my computer"

　

If power was interrupted during start up select one of the following

4) Safe mode

5) Safe mode with networking

6) Safe mode with command promt

7) Load last known good configuration.

8) Start windows normally

I attempted "Start Windows Normally" and the computer restarted but once it got past the intro BIOS/BOOT option screen a BSOD flashed up very quickly (too fast for me to read it) and the computer restarted - then the above screen displayed again. I selected each of the options (4,5,6,7,8) in turn and the same thing kept happening each time - the PC restarted and I'd end up back at that screen.

Then I remembered that I had made a Gateway Recovery disk when I first got the PC and I inserted it into the DVD drive and booted from it. The PC booted up OK to the Gateway Recovery Screen but the only recovery option I had was to "Restore Default Settings" which would erase my hard drive contents - there was no "Repair My Computer" option.

Is there a way I can boot up / fix windows without erasing my hard drive? I have most of it backed up but I'd rather not wipe it if there is an alternative. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
