Hello community,
I have been trying - unsuccessfully - to rid my Windows 7 laptop of malware. The problems started yesterday when a Windows update failed to continue after the laptop shut down due to a lack of battery power earlier in the week. Shortly thereafter, I noticed 'FBdownloader' trying to search for updates and 'mysearchdialer' as my browser search engine. Maybe this has nothing to do with the Windows update problem, however.
Since the number of things I could do on the laptop reduced as the day wore on yesterday, I tried to restore the system using system restore (first in normal mode then in safe mode), but it failed in both modes with the system restore points listed.

I already had Malwarebytes and Super Antispyware installed, but have been unable to get them to run in normal mode. When I ran Malwarebytes in safe mode, it found 19 threats, which I removed, but I read that you should run it in normal mode to get the best results. Although the laptop boots up in normal mode most of the time, I cannot run these programs. I have now managed to uninstall them (fearing they were infected, too), but during an attempted reinstallation, the laptop just freezes.
I think I have now reached the limit of what I can think of trying, so it is time to turn to the experts :-) Hopefully there is someone out there who can help.
Thanks very much in advance!
