Computer hangs when I right click

Hi, I have an HP Probook 4520 and I am not sure if it has a virus? It starts up fine and then if I right click on anything, it just hangs. For example, I right clicked on a doc on the desktop and the loading circle just keeps spinning. I cannot click on anything else. If I open a folder and right click on a document in there, it does the same but then I cannot minimise/close the folder or if I click on it through the taskbar, it just doesn't open. It gradually gets worse as at first it is just the desktop but yesterday when I couldn't access my folder/files from the task bar I went via the start menu, that worked the first time but then when I did it later I got some kind of error message 'system call failed".

Right click works fine when on internet, internet is running fine.

I ran malware bytes, anti malware removal tool and it scanned and found over 400 items. I removed all of them, restarted the laptop but it is still doing the same!!

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Becki

background sound issue

hello,

My laptop recently started with a lot of background advertisements while I was watching videos on internet. Upon further search I found this website and I have downloaded and run 'DDS'. Here are the results:

Can anyone please look into this issue and help me in solving the same? I am afraid my laptop is infected with malware which my anti virus failed to detect ! :(

thanks a lot for your help.

2 Networks 1 Connection (Do I switch or do I route?)

Hello All,

I am thinking of sharing a FiOS connection with my landlord upstairs, but I don't want to be stuck with a lousy WiFi connection coming from his router, and I also want to use my NAS drive. So I am proposing that he send me down an ethernet cable for me to build a separate network here.

The question is what hardware do we need and where along the line do we place it?

Should I place a switch before both routers?

ISP-->Switch-->[His Router],[My Router]

Or should I just daisy chain my router to his?

ISP-->His Router-->My Router

Thanks a bunch!

José

Audio in background. Unable to stop or find the source.

For a while now my laptop has been playing audio in the background. It sounds like advertisements from multiple web sites are all playing at once while there are no open browsers. I have AVG and scanned the computer. AVG found one threat, a hidden driver, but when I remove the threat, restart the computer and scan with AVG again the same single threat is reported again. I've run Combofix and Malwarebytes, but all I've been able to do is stall the audio for a couple of hours, and eventually the audio starts up again.

I appreciate any help and consideration.

This computer is configured to require a password in order to start up.

Hi someone i know got a call from "Microsoft" saying his computer was infected, after giving them remote access to his computer he realized his mistake he has come to me to see if i can fix the problem which it seems i cant do alone as im completly stuck the problem is as follows.

On start up the windows icon appears and then a box shows up saying "this computer is configured to require a password in order to start up"

u41.png

This is a pic of the box, the keyboard and mouse stop working on this screen so it isn't possible to type at all, I've searched a few forums looking for a answer as i have no idea how to fix this, and the common answer i find is to use a bootable disk to get into the computer but the disks never seem to work (i've been using dvd disks im going to try a normal cd tomorrow when i can buy them) I get a black screen saying "reboot and select proper boot device" when i set the computer to boot from the disk. The os is a 32bit windows xp home edition, I can try and find more info if its needed. Any help would be appreciated.

Win32:Malware-gen

First post from a novice, guys. I have Windows Vista and Avast Antivirus but noticed pop-ups, computer and keys freezes. Ran avast several times but keeps Win 32: Malware-gen reappearing. Additionally, another Win 32, is unremoveable. Look forward to any suggestions for removal. Thanks!

Random windows notification *Possible Infection*

So my avast had previously gone over a few files where the paths could not be specified.

I decided to reboot and see if this would fix it so I rebooted and when my account logged in, a random window came up saying "Updates have been successfully applied, you can go offline now". It had the options for "cancel" or "run".

Really nervous about this as I have no idea what would be making that window pop up.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Hermesx

Edit: Checked event viewer, shows that cvhsvc.exe gave 2 warnings near the time of login so hopefully this is just me being paranoid.

I had recently installed Microsoft Word and it says on BC that this is possibly part of Microsoft Office and such so hopefully nothing is wrong. :)

Websites redirect and video ads popping up/audio ads run on desktop randomly.

We are running on a Windows Vista Ultimate (pretty old) we got it in 2007, I think.

Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.40 GHz 2.39 GHz

Ram: 4.00 GB

32-bit OS

(not sure if any of that helps but just in case)

We hardly ever shut our computer down, just turn the monitor off. Often times, when I turn the monitor back on, there are pop up ads (sometimes explicit and I have children!) and sometimes there will be an audio ad running but no visual.

We use Firefox for online access and 9 times out of 10, the website we type in is not where Firefox takes us.

The computer is running super slow as well.

Any help is much appreciated!

Many thanks!

Barbara

Win 8 Kills Apps for "Not Responding" when they just need more time.

8 is the most frustrating version of windows ever. I have perfectly good apps that will run fine under 7; 7 may warn me that the program is not responding and ask me what to do about it but 8 just jerks the rug out from under the app and kills it. Does anybody know a way to make it more friendly about killing unresponsive apps? Is there a timer somewhere that I can lengthen?

Win 7, stuck during startup, Windows repair doesn't work

Hello, I am a new member and this is my very first post. My daughter's laptop doesn't boot up, and I read some of the posts here and hope somebody can help me with a fixlist.

Windows 7 x64, no Windows CD available, attempting a restart my computer will not boot and I cannot get it to start in any safe mode option or get to an earlier time through system restore ( I get errors 0x800700b7)

So I downloaded FRST64.exe, put it on a USB stick and run it via the Windows 7 64-bit repair CD and the log FRST.txt from the farbar recovery scan is in the attachment.

Can you please help me with a Fixlist.txt solution so that I can use this to resolve the problem?

Thanks in advance,

Pete

Keep getting pop ups on google chrome

My computer has windows 7 and for a few months now I get pop-ups whenever I'm on the internet, using google chrome. I installed Spybot search and destroy a while ago, and I've used it regularly to remove the adware it finds, but I'm still getting pop-ups. I also ran Malwarebytes anti-malware and that program did not find any threats either. I also already have Norton antivirus on my computer.

I'm looking for information on what is causing the pop-ups and what I can do to get rid of them. Thank you!

Windows won't Logoff without Hanging/Crashing

I've been cleaning up a friends PC in Safe Mode after frequent crashes. SuperAntiSpyware removed piles of Trojans & Spyware including the persistent BupProtector.

Now all clean (at least, according to SuperAntiSpyware), but crashes when logging on to a new Admin account in Normal mode. Will logon to existing user account in Normal mode, and appears to run stable, until Logoff or Shutdown, when it hangs whilst "Logging off", and eventually dumps.

Win 7 Event Viewer shows Event ID 1001 source Brother BrLog at time of hang.

I guess I should uninstall Brother printer drivers.

Please help.

Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file.

I keep getting the error 'Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.' whenever I try to run as adminstratorr or run something that requires adminstrator access. It only started happening a few weeks ago, I'm not sure what the cause is. I'm on an adminstrator's account?

Outlook 2013 (64bit) profile problem

Hi everyone,

hope someone can help me here. I've recently installed Office 2013 (32 bit) on my windows 7 (64bit) for testing perposes. After tsting it for about a week (everything went fine), I removed it from my computer using the add/remove programs feature in the control panel. I re-installed the 64bit Office version, and since then I've had the popup from Outlook asking me which profile it should use?. I followed the steps offered by Microsoft, but the 'problem' is still there.

Can't download

Recently, I was browsing on the internet and a pop up ad appeared informing me I need to up date Firefox. I had the official logo, so I thought it was legit. I clicked download. From that point on, I lost my original Firefox and was prevented by " something " to re-download it. Avast Tech Support could not remote my computer to figure out what was going on. " Something " was blocking them too. They recommended removing my data with a flash drive and re-installing Windows Microsoft with an installation disc. They could then help me out from there. Is this my only option? Those discs are pricey

Empty folder appears on desktop I didn't create

Hello,

I'm not sure I can say I'm glad to be back here cause that means I've got problems. This one I can't figure out what happened. It may be complex, and hoping someone can help.

I have recently noticed within the past two days or so, an empty uncategorized folder that appears on my desktop after Windows boot up. When I right click on it for properties, it gives me the options of Cut, Create shortcut, and Delete.

Also, I have noticed that when I sign into my network, there is an unrecognized SSID that shows up, but quickly disappears sometimes right after I log in, every time. It shows up on my devices too. It isn't an SSID that I created. When i logged into my router set up page, it posted that the unknown SSID could possibly be a hacker. I use NetGear Genie, and now that app on my phone crashes. I just updated to the iOS7 software. My iTunes Store app crashes now too. But I am going to contact Apple about that. I just ran a Norton 360 quick scan, and only 2 tracking cookies showed up.

I recently loaded HotSpot Shield on my computer and phone. Not sure if that program could have anything to do with this issue. it is still running, but my account isn't fully active. I was also getting freezes and error messages at times using Firefox 24 on my Win7 PC.
