Tapping on contact won't show details

Hello, I have an Xperia E.

I wanted to filter my contacts so I could delete the ones that were imported as "Sim Contacts".

After I did that, and switching the filter back to "Phone Contacts", I am not able to access the contact's details, as in diffirent calling numbers, e-mails, etc.

I tap the name in the list, and NOTHING happens.

I 've deleted and imported my contacts several times, but no avail.

I can't seem to find a solution online. Any ideas?

PC random freezes (windows 7)

Hello,

So, I have a huge problem. My computer randomly freezes, it happens more often if I play any game with high requirements or simply listen to music on youtube.. but sometimes it happens even if dont do anything.

'n yea, my pc froze 5 times in 15 minutes today, so i'm lucky if i get this thread finished

I have re-applied thermal paste both to my CPU and GPU. So I dont think it's a overheating problem.

I have also re-installed windows, but nothing changed (so this must be a hardware problem).

I attached a file of my HWMonitor readings just in case..

And my specs:

Asus M5A97 LE R2.0

AMD FX-4170 quad-core

Gigabyte nvidia GTX 550ti GPU

1x Kingston HyperX genesis 4gb RAM

Codegen 600W PSU

HELP!

BSOD every day on first boot

Hello people,

For a few weeks, every time I first boot my computer for that day, it shows a BSOD during booting or just after logging in. After that I just restart my computer and it'll work fine for the rest of the day.

I've tried system restore, but that doesn't work and just shows a BSOD too.

Next time it happens, i'll take a picture of the BSOD and post it here. I'm unable to do that now because today's BSOD has already happened and I already restarted my computer without making a picture.

I was wondering whether it could have something to do with my RAM.

I'm running Windows Vista on an Acer Aspire M1641:

PS: English is not my first language, so please forgive me for any mistakes :)

Computer to TV is blurry and cropped

I'm trying to hook my computer up to my TV a Samsung HC-R4245W which is an 1080i TV. I am using a HDMI from my computer to a DVI to the TV by way of a small plug converter. No matter what I try the screen is still blurry and cropped cutting off a chunk of the screen on each side. I've changed the picture mode, the screen resolution, sharpness, and checked on the zoom, but I can't adjust that. Even my PS3 has the same problems. Any ideas on how to fix it?

Computer won't boot

Hey guys, I've been having a problem since this morning. I upgraded to Windows 8.1 a little over a week ago and everything was working smoothly. Then all of a sudden I can't boot into the OS - I get a BSOD that says "System Thread Exception Not Handled. (ataport.sys)". It keeps trying to repair the boot but it doesn't work. Safe mode with networking does work fine however. I'm not sure if it's a virus problem or not but I figured I'd post here since I couldn't get DDS to work on 8.1 anyway. I searched for other people who had the same problem but didn't find much. Any help you guys can give me would be appreciated.

Intel Core Duo 2 processor temp

http://ark.intel.com/products/35581/Intel-Core2-Duo-Processor-T5800-2M-Cache-2_00-GHz-800-MHz-FSB

85c being max as stated in the link

I am just a little curious about something, using the laptop/notebooks power managment settting you can adjust the "proccesser state".

Running Flash games using Fire Fox

(sitting on cooling pad, stock sink/fan, replaced paste[some time ago])

checked with http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/

If I have it set at:

100% the temp runs about 68c to 71c (never liked it that high)

99% the temp runs about 58c to 59c

80% is about 56c

75% runs about 47c to 50c (fan is hardely on at that point)

etc.

(all give or take the range shifted a bit, about 2c cooler with a newer version of CoreTemp)

I am interested in that 1% for a 10c drop in temp, why is this?

(Don't worry about cooling suggestions, its not worth it at the comps age IMO)

Just curious as to why 1% made such a diffrance :/

thx

What Are You Listening To?

Hi guys :inlove:

I thought it would a nice idea to have this thread. I don't know much about you guys, but i have a feeling that we all like to listen to music while we work  It's really simple, basically you simply write the name of the track you are listening to followed by a hyphen or a "~" and then the artist name! Post as many times as you like, and we can see where our music tastes lie and whether we like the songs or not!

So i may as well start this off: My music tastes lie in rock/punk

Yahoo Developer Virus?

Sorry, I posted in Operating Systems Windows 7 by mistake. I'm running windows 7 and firefox's homepage has been redirecting to a Yahoo Developer Page. The computer has been sluggish. I tried taking steps to remove the virus, but can't find the files/processes that the steps say to take. Attached are my scan results. Thank you so much for your time.

ci.dll cause windows to unable to boot

Hey, not sure if here is right place to post but here goes.

My computer mysteriously failed to boot up yesterday evening after using it during the afternoon. After some fixing done by startup repair from my bootable windows 7 USB drive, it presented an error - ci.dll is missing or corrupt.

Researching the problem on net leads me to enter safe mode with cmd but still the same error. And also I tried disabling driver signature enforcement, still leading to the same error. I also boot up the windows 7 USB and tried sfc scanning via command prompt, it presented with yet another error - resource protection could not start.

Now, at my wits end, I'm facing with either installing a new window 7, not knowing whether data will be lost, or seek online help, which may be slower but effective. So here I am online seeking professional help to save my data, I hope professionals here can enlighten me and guide me to repair my computer, thanks!

First post -- weird blue screen and recovery

Hello, I found bleeping computer.com through a Web search on aswRvrt.sys, which is the file where my computer was hanging up when I tried to start it in safe mode.

Problem is blue screen, followed by very slow performance and sometimes failure to restart, but eventually the computer recovers. This has happened twice. Last time the computer recovered with a shutdown that took 15 minutes or so, and next time on startup everything was normal

First thing I need to know here is where to find the log that was created when the computer blue-screened, so I can post it here for review. Someone tell me and I'll post that in my reply.

About the computer: it is a PowerSpec G160 -- specs here: http://powerspec.com/systems/system_specs.phtml?selection=G160

It is running Windows 7 Home Premium.

Changes since purchase:

  • added LG BluRay drive,

  • removed original DV-ROM drive;

  • replaced the boot drive with a Sandisk 840 series solid-state drive,

  • added a couple of SATA internal hard drives.

  • Replaced the original graphics card with an Nvidia GeForce GTX 650.

  • I have an Adaptec 2940 SCSI controller plugged in but I couldn't find a driver for it in Windows 7 and it reports that on startup.

The computer is also connected to external hard drives via USB and eSATA. (I edit video on this computer, that's why all the storage).

I have scanned for infections with Avast free and Malwarebytes and they found nothing.

Thanks for any help you can provide to solve my problem.

DUST

Does dust make a computer spaz out, overheat the CPU, freeze the computer, then make my bedroom smell burnt?

:/

Then when I tried turning it back on after 10 minutes the computer lights were going crazy and it would keep shutting down and starting up every whatever part of a second.

I opened up my case, removed a LOT of dust, found that a wire had been broken, so I 'fixed' it, I guess you could say, and it's working fine now.

I'm just glad my CPU didn't burn out again and force me to get another one!

Ads from Malware?

Hi,

I've just started noticing ads on websites that weren't there before (clker.com, for one) and the ads are not there when I access the same site from my other computer.

I'm using Chrome 30 (latest update) and I have Ad Blocker Plus running, which usually removes ads, which is why I think this is strange. I haven't installed anything new, except for updating Join.Me this afternoon, and I don't think that would cause an issue. I've scanned with tdsskiller and it came up blank. MalwareBytes is still running. Any thoughts/suggestions?

Thanks!

Startup Boot Loop

I've been having a problem on Startup with Windows Rebooting many times ,sometimes 8-10 times before finally completing Startup. This only happens during a cold start after the computer has been shutdown for an hour or more,Restarting after a successful boot is not a problem.I've tried using the Windows 7 DVD to Repair with no success and I've also done CHKDSK to repair any corrupt files.I also used an old Windows System Image to restore Windows with all programs and the problem is still there.I have Windows on a separate partition from all my files so cleaning up my C Drive is not a worry for me if it will fix this very annoying problem.

Antivirus Security Pro Removal Returned after gone thru guide

My computer system has been plagued by the Antivirus Security Pro scarware. I have gone through the guide and done what it has said as instructed, however a couple of days later it returned again. Now, when it came back I was trying to go through my emails and it came up before I even looked at any emails for the day. The first time I clicked on a email that said something about voice mails. I search for something to get rid of scareware and it worked. Used RKill and malware-bytes to get rid of it, but returned again. I normally have Norton Security as my main anti-virus protection. I am thinking of re-installing Norton because it did not come up when I clicked on it the day I got rid of the virus because I thought nothing of it. Now, there could be files still associated with the Antivirus Security Pro still lurking in the computer that malware-bytes did not catch the second time I ran the malware-bytes full scan. Right now, I am trying to see why it cam up again.

They open and play, read fine in Lubuntu but windows shows them as 0 bytes with the

"refers to a location that is unavailable" error message.

Ive tried taking ownership of the files on Windows and so on but that doesn't work.

Not a huge issue but would be usefull to open the files with windows, does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Suspecting infection, computer name change (and netbios change "9Aorka5")

Hi! firstly this is my first post so i hope i'm doing this right.

I have a win 7 computer which i suspect is infected by some kind of malware/virus

The thing is that the computer name and local network name has changed from my deafault name to "9Aorka5", unfortunately i can't find anything about this specific name on the internet, since i also have to login to user acc on computer boot while this has been automatic before.

Possible infection (if likely) when restoring mbam clean since i was unable to launch either tuneup utilities or adobe reader after cleanup, altough infection from pdf-file is also possible (but unlikely since files were scanned with avg without any warnings)

Windows defender was also unactive (noticed when computer name was already changed), upon activating defender and running full scan no threats was found either

Full scan using avg free is finished without any threats and full mbam scan in safemode without network is currently ungoing, i've never seen this kind of problem before so i need help.

Once again i'm new to the forum and have tried to supply all i've tried and figured out so far, and thank you so much in advance!

Adobe Fireworks: Can I fill a progress bar automatically over 60 states?

I am making rank images for my forum which is turning out to be a very daunting task. I don't want to waste hours slowly doing frame by frame of a progress bar filling up so I want to use some kind of animation symbol method in fireworks to do it over 60 frames.

Here is a diagram to help you understand 2 out of the 3 things I need help with. If you can help me with this I will ask you a 3rd question.

Thanks in advance for any help!

P.S Can I save all the states as 60 separate images all at once or will I have to manually save each one?

Last Letter Of The Word Game - Take 3

Lycanthropy

So it happened... Money is gone, found some nasty things on my laptop

Hello,

Yesterday I've been informed by ma bank that unauthorized transaction was probably held on my account via credit card. Logged onto my account and found 200 EUR missing. After being into computers world for like 10 years it's not something you'd like to happen. You hear and read about it but don't expect it to happen to yourself... Anyway it did and now I want at least know how could it happen.

I was using avira for a long time but to be honest I didn't fully scan my laptop for a period of time. Yesterday I downloaded Kaspersky Internet Security 2014 (trial) which is "advised" by my bank's support. So, it found stuff like that:

Trojan.Win32.StartPage.cdus (I guess related to web browsers content changing)

Trojan.Win32.Staser.fv (that's the one i am a bit scared of as for now...)

also some little guy named AdWare.Win32.D365.a

And here's my question. Is any of these 3 above able to send my credit cards or bank account details to "third party" people? As far as I'm concerned Staser can.

If not - I guess the main reason of my money lost is that I entered credit card details on some unauthorized website (what to be honest i can't remember eh).

Well, it's too late to "heal" my laptop, I am surely going for total formatting of all HDD and re-installing OS. But if you can give me more details about what I found on it and if it could be the reason - thank you.

with regards!

Need help PLEASE

I recently found a virus on my computer and thought I had removed it. I ran a couple different other scans today(PANDA, ESET, and ROUGEKILLER) all of them except eset found 2 different objects so I removed them. Also AVG my everyday software found something today too. After I did a restart I got a new error to pop up that I have never seen before so I dont know what to do. Here is what it says: File Name Warning There is a file or folder on your computer called "C:\Program" which could cause certain applications to nto function correctly. Renaming it to "C:\Program1" would solve this problem. Would you like to remane it now? One of the scanners that I usedt oday found something in the regisrty and it was renamed. So I am unsure it there was a mistake on the scanners part or if it is something malicious.

Advice about whether upgrade is feasible.

Following the directions of a moderator about a problem with my computer I went looking for some info and found out that this computer went into service in 2006. Is it possible for me to run Speccy or Belarc, post it here and get advised as to whether or not it is feasible to upgrade it?

Thanks,

m

CPU Runs at 100%, computer bogged down; suspect viruses or the like

A few weeks ago, I installed McAfee. Ever since then, things have slowed down extremely on my computer. Despite security scans in McAfee and including a tdds scan, nothing shows up as a problem. But the computer hesitates when I type and runs extremely slow otherwise. As I stated in the header, when I have the task manager open, I see that the cpu is running at 100%.

I received some help from you guys a year or so ago, and you were amazing. Unfortunately, near the end of the process, some major events occurred in my life which overtook the process. Now I am having difficulty again with my computer.

Please help. Just tell me what you need for me to do.

Thanks eversomuch.

Minidump error + BSOD + wireless card loss of signal

Hello

I bought this new HP laptop approx. 6 weeks ago with Windows 8 pre-installed which gave me problems from day 1. It also had Norton Internet Security pre-installed. From the start it had loads of pop ups and malware, I don't know where they came from as I don't visit strange sites plus it had Norton running. After removing Norton, installing Kaspersky Internet Security, running Anti-MalwareBytes and cleaning up the infections things seemed to get back to normal.

Lately I started getting minidump errors with a blue screen when I switch on the laptop in the morning, and a persistent loss of signal from the wireless card.

I ran Blue Screen View and got details about DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE, see attached files.

Looking at the Blue Screen View details I see dates going back to 2012, is that normal seeing as I only just bought this computer which was supposed to be brand new?

Any help appreciated.

Thank you

Can't remove dosearches.com

Just recently when I open a new tab in FF I have been getting 'dosearches.com'in the address bar, and even when I change my homepage back to google it just go back to 'dosearches.com'.

I have looked in Programs and Features in windows 7 64bit, and there is no sign of anything like 'dosearches' to uninstall.

I have also looked in FF addons, and again no sign of 'dosearches'.

I am stumped at how or where its coming from.

I have searched the registry and have instances of IRDOSearches under HKLM\Software\Clases\Interface\ 9EB etc etc, but not sure if those instances are related to doserches.com

I have done a system cleanup using Spybot S&D, and have a clean system, also ran MalwareBytes Anti malware program and gain it found nothing.

So where is the dosearches.com coming from???

windows 8.1 upgrade right click on start menu broken

Hi..

I bought a new laptop that came with windows 8. I did all the upgrades in windows updates, installed adobe cs suite, kaspersky, and office.. And then a few days later I installed windows 8.1.

Now.. When I right click on the start menu (to get the contextual menu that has programs and features /task manager / control panel / start etc) none of those menu items work. -I get the spinning circle for few seconds then nothing appears. For example if I click on 'control panel' the control panel window does not open

I added a second account just now. In the second account the menu is working fine.

Is there something I can copy from one account to the other to make it work again?

Thanks if you can help!

Steve

HDD makes clicking sounds over and over

I'm trying to recover some data using this Rosewill adapter for IDE/SATA device. Right when I plug the HDD in, the noise starts right up and will not stop and I don't see anything on my computer popping up letting me know that it read the HDD. Is the HDD just completely toasted or is my Rosewill a piece of crap? It sounds like the HDD is having trouble even trying to to read anything, am I correct?

Need Nearly Identical Alternative to Skype

So here's the deal. Two years ago when I had an active Skype account, I had a skype phone number. I could call into that number from any phone and it would work fine.

Now today I get a new Skype account with a Skype phone number. I go to dial the phone number and nothing, just a busy signal. If I dial out from skype to my phone however, I will get my skype phone number as the caller ID.

So here's what I was planning on using Skype for (as I had before). I run a weekly net (broadcast) on a radio repeater. I call into skype from the repeater, and use skype to play this broadcast over the repeater. I have my mic source in skype set to line in, and a MP3 player plugged into line in to play the audio file. Notice how this needs to be direct.

Is there a similar service to skype that can do exactly this? Offer a paid phone number and the ability to play audio from a source other than a microphone? Also I need to be able to specify the number to a degree.

CryptoGuard prevents your files from being taken hostage

Yesterday we released a new build of HitmanPro.Alert (free tool) which includes a universal solution against crypto ransomware like CryptoLocker, Dorifel (aka XDocCrypt) and others.

This new feature, called CryptoGuard, monitors the file system for suspicious file operations (CryptoGuard is a driver, installed by HitmanPro.Alert). When suspicious behavior is detected, the malicious code is blocked (write, delete, rename is revoked) and an Alert is presented to the user. So even while ransomware is active, it can't harm your files.

CryptoGuard works silently in the background at the file system level, keeping track of processes modifying your personal files. CryptoGuard works autonomously, so no user interaction is required.

Compared to CryptoPrevent

We've received several questions regarding how CryptoGuard compares to CryptoPrevent. In short, they are totally different. In fact, they can be used to complement each other.

CryptoPrevent is a tool that writes 200+ group policy object rules into the registry in order to prevent executables in specific locations from running. Typical locations set by CryptoPrevent are %appdata% and %localappdata%.

But malware is not restricted to the above locations. Malware runs as an exploit in your web browser, it can inject itself into running processes (e.g. explorer.exe, svchost.exe, etc.). Malware can copy itself to the desktop or startup folder on your start menu. And so on ...

This is where CryptoGuard differs from CryptoPrevent.

CryptoGuard doesn't look at where the ransomware is running, it looks at what it is doing to the file system.

We've put up a page with more information on our new CryptoGuard feature in HitmanPro.Alert.

Note that HitmanPro.Alert is a separate tool. It is different from the HitmanPro anti-malware application.

Lastly, a video says more than a thousand words:

Computer freezes, is uncooperative

Laptop running Windows 7. If the computer starts up normally, the CPU runs very hard, although task manager does not report anything in processes is eating CPU, if I go to the graph window, the computer is using a lot of its computing power. It just won't tell me what for. It runs very slowly in this state and after about 20 minutes, freezes regardless of what is happening at that time.

I can start the computer in Safe Mode where it runs indefinitely with no problems.

I ran some anti malware programs and they caught a few things, but obviously not enough. I have looked around in MSConfig and can't recognize what, if anything, is causing this. I think there is still malware on the machine.

Never seen this before.

Just this morning I noticed that whenever I go to another page it will stop loading until I move the mouse then it continue to load. If I don't move my mouse, it stops again. Move the mouse, it will start. Then I noticed that the same thing happens on videos. the video stops and the audio will stop a few seconds later, Move the mouse, it starts up, leave the mouse alone, stops again. I'm using WinXP pro, 2GB ram, P4 3.06GB. Any thoughts?

Websites do not fully load content (Windows 7 64-bit)

I recently began having an issue with my computer where websites do not fully load the content. Images are the main thing that I notice. Sometimes the full image will not load and sometimes the image looks garbled. I can refresh the page multiple times and sometimes it will load. This happens across all browsers. I have used multiple network adapters and through various troubleshooting, I have come to the determination that this is software related. I'd rather not format/re-install Windows, so I'm hoping there is a solution.

I am running Windows 7 64-bit and I mainly use Chrome for browsing.

Please help me resolve this. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide!

Alienware Aurora m9700

Hello all,

I'm trying to revive my old Alienware Aurora m9700.

Specs

http://www.techspot.com/review/9-alienware-aurora-m9700-laptop/page4.html?mobile=false

The ongoing issue that I've been having is well the monitor is off. The lights go on for power/charging and the touchpad but nothing else. M9700's all have shown signs of faulty factory LCD's but the strange part is the HDD isn't doing anything either which doesn't help. Also, the laptop is pron to overheat so reseating of the CPU/GPU and re-applying of thermal paste was done regularly during its lifetime. I certain do hope it isn't one of the nvidia cards that are messed up... I'm just stumped with this machine.

Cannot execute links to Java aps(?)

I am using FireFox 24.0 on a Lenovo T400 laptop running Windows XP Pro. When I attempt to execute a Java link (Example: www.shockwave.com/gamelanding/jigsawpuzzles.jsp#) nothing happens. No error message is given and it appears as though the click is just ignored. I can execute other, non-Java links but cannot execute any link that contains "jsp" in it! One further note, after attempting to click on the Java link, if the browser is closed, it will not open again until the system is re-booted.

I have tried running with and without my firewall enabled with no difference in execution. I have re-installed both Java and my virus software (Symantic EndPoint Protection).

Skype isn't working

So a couple of days ago I noticed that Skype on my PC was acting weird. When I tried to open it, it wouldn't open. So then I turned my PC off and on and Skype still wasn't working. So then I tried to access it via the desktop short-cut and it opened, but it looked like 2 Skype windows were open at the same time, I then tried to close the first one but it wouldn't go away. Then I tried to sign in and it said that I was already signed in.

Edit: Moved topic from Windows 7 to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

Slow Start UP

Hi all,

I was told to come to the Internal Hardware Forum! I'm having a problem with my start up after a reboot taking about 13 minutes to load. I posted in Windows XP Home and Professional and now I'm here. They think it could be Hard Drive failure!

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/511017/slow-start-up/

This is the link from my last thread in Windows XP Home and Professional! This will show everything I have tried so far to resolve this issue! Let me know if you need more information!

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,

Mike
