Laptop display not working

Hi,

Have a laptop and when turned on nothing gets displayed in the screen. Power On Led turns on, HDD led turns on and shows activity, CD Rom tray can be ejected. Laptop is a Compal FL90 with nvidia card. Where should I start? Do you have some sort of guide for troubleshooting?
