One of the last things I need to do before inserting the new Windows 7 installer disk and blowing out all the old XP stuff on my C drive is back up several big folders on my D drive. (Long story.) After numerous diagnostics on why none of my DVD burning software would copy the folders without failing, the option left was to update the firmware for this old (2005) Sony DW-D22A. Went to the Sony site and downloaded the updater. Running it results in: "This update is not intended for use with your computer model."
They recommend modifying the Windows>model.txt file to correct the contents. But mine appears to already have correct contents:
DeviceID = LITE-ON DVD SOHD-167T 9S1B
DeviceID = SONY DVD RW DW-D22A BYS2
The first is my mobo, and the other two are correct numbers for both internal drives. Any tips here?
