DVD R/W Drive Disappearing from Device Manager

I have a Lenovo Pentium 8960 laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium with a TSSTCorp 208AB DVD drive that is shown to be present upon powerup and which I can use to watch or burn a DVD. However after a single use, the drive is no longer available to Windows and doesn't show up in Device Manager. Cycling power usually fixes the problem for one more use then power cycling will be required again..
