DVI-I to DVI-D

I recently purchased a HDMI to DVI-I converter so I can view my computer screen on my TV since my TV doesn't have an HDMI plug and my computer does. I however meant to get a HDMI to DVI-D instead of the DVI-I that I got. Can I simply take pliers and remove the extra pins to convert the DVI-I to DVI-D or do I need to buy the correct converter?
