Windows XP Home didn't start successfully

Hi guys,

I would really appreciate your help with the following: when I try to turn my computer on I receive a message saying Windows XP didn't start successfully and then shows the usual options: safe mode, last configuration that worked, etc. After choosing an option, say last configuration that worked, it then shows the Microsoft Windows XP screen indicating it is loading it, but then it stays there and nothing else happens. Any suggestions as to what the problem is and what I should do about it?
